Youngsters clean streets

A group of young Sheffield Muslims joined forces with the City Council to help clean the city’s streets.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association Sheffield Chapter spent a morning bagging up litter and bottles that had been dropped in the city centre streets during the course of New Year celebrations.Shazad Ahmad, Regional Youth Leader for AMYA Sheffield, said: “Our members have enjoyed living in Yorkshire for decades and so any opportunity to help our local Community is a much welcomed one.“Helping to clean the streets of Britain also presents us with an opportunity to become better Muslims, as cleanliness is an integral part of our faith. Giving up a couple of hours can make a huge difference.

“We are a peace loving and well organised association which will continue to help make this great part of England an even better place to live in.”The big street clean is just one in a series of community initiatives the group has taken part in this winter, including blood donation, charity collections, hospital visits and donating food to the homeless.
