Young Hartlepool Muslims from Nasir Mosque Start Year with Community Clean-up
Young members along with their parents of the Nasir Mosque, in Brougham Terrace, started New Year’s Day by tidying up the town’s streets following the festive period. It has been the practice over the last few years for the Muslim Youth of Hartlepool to begin the New Year with congregational prayers and doing community work by going out and cleaning the streets. But as this year they are not allowed to meet up, therefore it was decided that they would individually clean up around their own houses.
After the morning prayer on 1st January 2021, they took to the streets with brooms and rubbish sacks in hand, as part of the Street Clean Project.
The young people are members of the Hartlepool and Teesside branch of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA), which carried out similar clean-ups across the country on Friday morning.
Farhan Ali, External Affairs Secretary for Nasir Mosque Hartlepool, said: “Our members have enjoyed having a great relationship with our neighbours in Hartlepool for decades and so any opportunity to help our local community is always much welcomed.
Cleaning the streets of Hartlepool also presents us with an opportunity to become better Muslims, as cleanliness is an integral part of our faith.
We are peace-loving British Muslims and our motto is ‘Love for all Hatred for None’ and we will continue to do all we can to serve our local community, as best we can, and wherever there is a need.”
Farhan Ali further said, “It is part of our faith to be loyal servants to our nation, therefore, one way to demonstrate this Islamic teaching and fulfil our faith is by raising and collecting funds for our British charities. Last year was very difficult for everyone, therefore we have been cooking food every week and through St. Aiden’s Church in Hartlepool, it has been distributed to the poor and needy. We managed to make 3,177 meals over the year and plan to continue this in the New Year. Furthermore, we have given over a hundred chocolate and biscuits boxes to the churches, food banks and others to help those in need.”
