Thousands of Muslim Elders to March in London – for Charity
Half a million pounds pledged to UK charities in the Walk For Peace

Muslims from across Britain are to converge on the capital to put their best foot forward for charity. Organised by the elder members of the community (aged 40+) the walk is a flagship event designed to promote health, charity and understanding between all communities.
Last year the ‘Charity Walk for Peace’ raised £360,000 and this year its target is to raise £500,000.
The walk talks place in south London, starting at the landmark Baitul Futuh Mosque on Sunday 31st May 2015. Over 40 mayoral and MP charities will be supported as well as the Royal British Legion, Alzheimer’s Society, The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, British Heart Foundation, We Are Macmillan Cancer Support, Age UK, Action for Children, RLSB, Samaritans and Humanity First.
Mr Waseem Ahmad, National President of the Elder Members of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community UK, said:
“The Charity Walk for Peace is inspired by the tenets of Islam which regard service to humanity as a fundamental religious duty for Muslims. In a world of growing inequality we want to step up to the challenge of helping the poor, the destitute and the marginalised in society.
“By serving society, supporting charitable endeavours, working for the common good and upholding the dignity of mankind we hope to play our part as active Muslim citizens in the UK.”
The walks are a regular feature of the community’s calendar and have been supported by numerous dignitaries including Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, Rt Hon Eric Pickles MP, Boris Johnson, Rt Hon Ed Davey MP, Jane Ellison MP as well as a large number of national and local charities.

“The mosque is playing a valuable role in bringing people together for the common good and as the local MP and as Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community I commend the elders of the community on this walk for peace. The community’s Muslims for Peace campaign is an excellent initiative and I am proud that Morden is playing a leading role in that work.”
Simon Gillespie, Chief Executive of the British Heart Foundation, said:
“On behalf of BHF I would like to thank each member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for joining us in our fight for every heartbeat. We look forward to a long and continued partnership with them.”
The walks have been held since 1985 and have grown in size and success over the years. A distinctive feature is that no administrative costs are deducted, so every single penny raised goes to charity. These walks have raised millions of pounds over the years for numerous national and local charities.
