Religious groups celebrate World Inter Faith Week

Six women from the Barking and Dagenham Ahmadiyya Muslim Association say they were made “very welcome” at St Margaret’s Church in Barking when they stopped by for tea and a tour.

They also attended a church service and stayed to talk to the worshippers.

Siemah Shafiq, who was part of the Muslim group, said: “We think it is really important to have dialogue to promote peace and tolerance.

“We were made really welcome by our hosts.”

The group also visited the Singh Sabha Gudwara in Barking.

“It is very positive that there is a lot of interfaith co-operation between faiths in Barking,” added Siemah.

The group are keen to maintain dialogue and plan to return to St Margaret’s and visit Gudwaras and other places of worship across east London.
