The world head of a Muslim community has opened a new mosque in the city.
His Holiness Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Caliph of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, visited Leicester to inaugurate the Baitul Ikram Mosque, in Avenue Road Extension, Clarendon Park Road.He praised the city’s tradition of multiculturalism and noted the fact that Narborough Road is recognised as the most ethnically diverse road in the country.

He said: “In my opinion, this should be regarded as a badge of honour for the city and it is evidence of Leicester’s successful model of integration and inclusiveness. These are qualities that should never be forsaken or disregarded.“As we are living in extremely precarious times wherein much of the world is increasingly consumed by disorder and injustice, it is the critical need of the time we promote and spread the tolerant values that this city has epitomised for so long.”

“We must all work towards uniting society under the banner of humanity and seek to foster respect for each other’s values and beliefs. Drawing upon this city’s past, it is imperative people understand peace and security can only be achieved through love, tolerance and respect”.
