Spreading the peaceful message- Love for All

FRIENDS and neighbours of Haslemere’s Jamia Ahmadiyya UK college of modern languages and theology dropped in for an open day on Saturday (Jan 26) to meet staff and students and find out more about school life and the faith community.

College professor Abdul Quddus Arif, who teaches history of Islam and English and is also director of the UK Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association, said: “I’m one of the open day organising committee. It’s such an important part of our annual calendar presenting to the community what’s happening in our college.

“We gave our visitors tours and they had lots of questions about Islam. The key thing about our annual open house event is for people to know more about what’s being taught. As well as the tours, we showed a short documentary about our community in the main auditorium, and we served refreshments afterwards.

“The college has an 18th century bible, other historic holy scripts were also on display in the library, as well as copies of our in house magazine and dissertations written by students.

“I spent the final year of my seven-year course at Haslemere in 2013. I was then posted to Ghana, Spain and Pakistan for further training and worked in an international publications department reviewing books. I was appointed lecturer at Haslemere in 2016. I live in Liphook with my family and love Haslemere. The college is a beautiful place, scenic and serene. It’s perfect for students.”
